The Mysterious Shifting Ledger Numbers

Welcome to Miracle Monday… and my blog post #101!!  Hooray!! It has been fun sharing my Alchemist musings with you for 100 previous posts… now on to a mind-boggling “miracle” that happened to me in my past.

Many years ago I went through a period of financial stress when my ex-husband was in graduate school. We had gone heavily into debt to pay for his four years of schooling, and then we moved across country for the second time in just a few years. Neither one of us had income for awhile and it was my job to balance the budget and pay the bills.

Many people  now know what it feels like to get behind on payments, to see more out-flow than in-flow, to feel a sense of desperation and panic when bills come due. I am familiar with those feelings, and they are totally stressful, frustrating, and humiliating at times.

There was a time when one big bill loomed before me. I had it marked on my monthly bill ledger for when a balloon payment was due. Each month as the due date came nearer I looked at the ledger and wondered how I would collect all of the money I needed to make that payment. It was etched in my mind – the date it was due, the amount that was due. My photographic memory saw it clearly even when I was not looking at the ledger, and it was reinforced every month when I paid the other bills and marked them into the accounting columns.

The time finally arrived when the balloon payment was due. I was desperate. The money was not available to me yet to pay the bill. I could only imagine the consequences of not paying that bill. I didn’t know what to do.

A spiritual philosophy had taught me that if I went ahead and wrote a check for a bill – in faith, even without having the money present in the account to pay for it, that the money would show up soon and that I would then be able to mail the check. I decided that this would be a good opportunity to put this philosophy to a test.

I opened the ledger to begin writing out the check for the appropriate amount. Much to my surprise the due date had shifted. The payment amount was still written in my own handwriting, but had shifted to the following month. Here I was, after all of these months looking at the due date, memorizing it, seeing it in my mind’s eye, and now the date had changed. This was truly a miracle! I rubbed my eyes several times and looked at it over and over, wondering if I was going crazy.

Well, the following month the money was available and I thankfully paid off that bill. What a gift I had received in being granted one more month! And, I will never know how that date changed, but it did, and it saved me much hassle and hardship! I am truly grateful for that mysterious shifting ledger number!

Cool story, Anne! I had a miracle happen for me this year when the money I needed to take a class that I’d already paid for on credit (and didn’t like the thought of having to pay it back, it was such a large amount) was given back to me by the proverbial “cheque in the mail”…am amazing and surprising day for me, since I had been divinely guided to take the class in the first place. Sometimes the answers aren’t abvious until we trust, leap, and then see what happens!
