Nutrients – Choosing the Best Forms for Your Health

I get so frustrated when I see people buying nutritional supplements that I feel are useless to them. The nutritional supplement industry is very large, providing many choices to the consumer.  And, in a fashion similar to the way our society feeds itself, those who choose inexpensive fast-foods or inexpensive generic supplements, often are getting little or no nutritional benefits from their meal or supplements.

The best nutrition is provided from natural organic sources including plants and animal tissue. When a vitamin or mineral supplement is made directly from a real food, then like in nature, the form is easily absorbed by the human body. On the other hand, when a man-made chemical resembling the original vitamin or mineral is offered in the supplement it may or may not be utilized by the body.

I plan in future blog posts to provide a series focused on each major nutrient vital to the human body, and in it I will list the recommended forms of each vitamin or mineral that are most readily absorbed by the body. In the meantime, just remember that you are what you eat, and that when you buy quality organic foods and natural food-based nutritional supplements your health will be your reward. I see this as up-front prevention and highly endorse it over landing in the hospital!

And, it is my opinion that you don’t always get the most absorbable nutrients from vitamins or minerals purchased from your corner drug chain or big box store brands. Check the form of all of your supplements to ensure that you are getting your money’s worth in whole food ingredients rather than chemicals. Your body will be glad you did!
